“You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.” Psalm 44:4(NIV)

As missiles from Hamas or Hezbollah launchers are fired at Israeli cities, crews of Israeli Defense Force (IDF) computer specialists immediately set to work tracking the incoming missiles’ trajectories and speed. In seconds, a button is pushed. An Israeli missile is then airborne and on-course for a high-altitude intercept. Overhead, a cloud of white smoke can be seen. The destruction of property and death of innocent citizens was averted.

On July 8th Reuters news service reported over 130 such missiles were fired at major Israeli population centers in a twenty-hour span. The fact that no fatalities occurred from these attacks was credited to a sophisticated missile defense system known as “The Iron Dome”.

When Pharaoh’s army pursued the Moses-led Hebrews through the parted waters of the Red Sea, their chariots’ wheels began to fall off. Before they were drowned, the Egyptians said, “Let’s get away from the Israelites! The Lord is fighting for them and against Egypt.” (Exodus 14:25)

As it was then, it is now. The Lord God of Jacob is the Iron Dome. He is for the Jews and against those who seek their destruction. The fact His people’s enemies possess powerful weapons while they fight alone, presents a familiar scenario. History has often shown that disaster will come on those who plan disaster for his chosen people.

Centuries after Egypt’s chariots first lay at the bottom of the sea, God spoke to Hezekiah, king of Judah: “I will defend this city and save it, for my sake and for the sake of David my servant.” That night the angel of the LORD went out and put to death a hundred and eighty-five thousand men in the Assyrian camp.” (1 Kings 19:34-35) The battle was the Lord’s!

As we rush headlong toward the last days, know this: God will always fight for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob’s descendants. The Iron Dome is a small preview of things to come.
